She's coming. As I sit on the verge of the Winter Solstice, I can feel her presence drawing nearer. By late afternoon, the darkness sweeps in, filling the air with a clean, crisp coldness that amplifies the star's illumination.
It is the season of the Cailleach, when our distant memories caress our thoughts, and our shadows dance around the room, begging you to notice. There are treasures found in the darkness of winter that are unique to this fleeting time of year. To seek out the dark and all its beauty enriches one's inner being.
If we are brave enough to sit in the stillness, listening to the silence, we can hear the echoes of our ancestors whispering their stories softly in the flickering of a candle's light.
This is the time of reflection, journeying inward, and reconnecting with our hearts to pull forth our innermost desires and wishes. It is the most magical time of year. A time when anything is possible, and our future is an empty page aching for new stories to unfold. It is time to dream, wish, and begin manifesting the life we want to jump into.
Spend some time with the new moons of winter, cleanse your home, bring in some fresh flowers, light candles, and write your intentions. Make a plan, and then visualize or meditate on those desires. To take it a step further and bring those desires into being, create a vision board or some creative art that reflects on your desires; by seeing your inner desires in a tangible form, you begin manifesting those desires into reality.
Stand under the moon and read your intentions, give thanks, and burn the note, letting the smoke carry your wishes into the world.
Lastly, think of your desires and give thanks for the success of their fruition, and feel gratitude for all the blessings in your life.
When we begin to fill our dark nights with our own stories, we start creating real magic in our lives, and who doesn't love a happily ever after?
